The Department of Education, R.G. Baruah College, Guwahati was established in the year 1978, the year in which the college was established. Dr. Parul Saikia, Dr. Babita Choudhury and Dr. Rita Baruah are the founder teacher of the department. Dr. Parul Saikia was also the Principal in-charge of the College till 2010. In 2010, Dr. Babita Choudhury took charge as Principal of the College. And Dr. Rita Baruah left the college in the year 2004. The present faculty comprises of Dr. Dipankar Talukdar, Dr. Karabi Kakati and Dr. Utpal Kalita. From the very beginning, Department of Education always trying to provide quality education for which students from different districts and from the other states of North East India are enrolled in the Department of Education. At the very beginning, the Department of Education started with 50 students. At present, students intake in Major/Honours course is 90 (sometime more than 90 due to the demand of the students) and in General/Regular course in 300 (approximate). The pass percentage and first class holder of the Major/Honours course is increasing every year. Some of the students are enrolled themselves in PG course in different universities of Assam and outside Assam. The Department of Education has its own library with more than 300 books (both reference books and text books). Books of the library are used by the students and faculty members of the department. The department has a Psychological Laboratory to provide practical knowledge to the Major/Honours students. The faculty members of the department are engaged themselves in different innovative teaching-learning strategies like Project method, Field Survey, Team Teaching, Brain storming etc. to provide quality education. Apart from the curricular activities, the teachers and students of the Department of Education are engaged with different activities like Celebration of International Literacy Day, Educational Tour, Publication of Hand Written Magazine and Wall Magazine e
